ECDR could save lives

Police are considering seven more suspicious deaths at a care home in Butleigh run by a husband and wife team.

A couple arrested in December of 2007 have today had their bail extended to January 2009 as police consider no 12 suspicious deaths at Parkfields Care Home in Butleigh the pair used to run.

As well as murder the pair have also been arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of controlled and prescribed controlled drugs.

The Electronic Controlled Drugs Register (ECDR) could have prevented the couple prescribing excessive amounts of controlled drugs to their patients and to themselves.

As the ECDR is not editable an inspector could quite easily have picked up on any discrepancies between the register and the stock, causing them to have been arrested much earlier.
