Lacking palliative care in nursing homes

Checks with 10 homes, run by voluntary welfare organisations, showed that between 2 and 20 per cent of their residents could benefit from some expertise in palliative care.

As drugs like Morphine are rarely used in nursing homes due to lack of prescribing doctors, Panadol is pretty much the only medicine nursing homes can provide to ease the pain of it's patients.

Nursing homes cannot afford to have a full-time nurse in palliative work so for now they will continue to do their best for pain. Should any complications arise the patients are sent to hospital to live out their days.
