Fears grow over medicine shortage
As it becomes more profitable for wholesalers and pharmacists to sell drugs abroad, the prospect of drug shortages is facing British patients.
To get higher prices, many wholesalers and individual pharmacies have exporting licenses that allow them legitimately to export medicines from the UK to other countries.
As the government's Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme comes into force on January 1st 2009 that imposes a 5% price cut on medicines bought by the NHS for prescription medicines, supplies could become even tighter.
