Government White Paper threatens future of GP dispensaries
As the government release a new White Paper about dispensing GP surgeries, arguments and problems for thousands come to light.
The Dispensing Doctors Association surveys more than 6,000 patients and found that more than 95% would find it difficult or inconvenient if their surgery stopped dispensing.
Currently patients can choose to have their drugs dispensed at their GP if they live more than a mile away from a Pharmacy. The White Paper says that this current system is too expensive and proposes an idea of modifying or removing completely the distance rule in favour of giving more power to local primary care trusts.
